 John at CambridgeDrawing of JohnJohn

This website shows the paintings, watercolours, and poems of John Levinson (1949-1979).  John went to Bedales School and subequently studied architecture at Kings College, Cambridge.  He went on to St Martins School of Art, and during his twenties created a significant body of oils and watercolours. He also wrote poems, plays and a novel A Suitcase in the Hills, published privately after his death.  John took his life in 1979, at the age of thirty.  He remains very much missed by his many friends and his family.

The website provides an archive of John's work, intended mainly for those who knew John and in memory of his mother Mary Levinson who died in 2010.  Material continues to be added to this site, from the many drawings and paintings that John created during the 1970s.  More recent additions are Robert Creighton's collection of John's watercolour's and paintings, including the three sections of a fine triptych.

In 2020 artist Di Livey provided images of two of John's watercolours, along with a poster designed for an exhbition by the 'New Bagnigge Group' in March 1977.  This group included John, Di Livey, Jacqui Henshall, John Fuller, Chris Plowman, Tim Marr, Peter Bourne, Bette Spektorov, Antony Gormley, and Yoshoro Ohyama.  See on the Recent Additions page on this website under the 'Information' tab.
